Supporting foster carers as first educators
Everyone has goals they want to achieve in life - but research still shows that children and young people in foster care do not reach the same levels of social and educational attainment as their peers. Only 11 per cent of those leaving care in 2003 had achieved five GCSEs or above (grades A* to C) compared to 59 per cent of all school leavers. Over half (51 per cent) of all care leavers have no qualifications.
Fostering Achievement is a scheme that aims to help the children and young people develop their potential.
Through the ongoing commitment, enthusiasm and creativity of the Fostering Achievement team, the scheme will continue to be successful in achieving its aim of equipping and supporting foster carers in order that they can help those in care to:
- gain a sense of achievement
- realize their potential
- make their dreams come true.
