Education and training credits of around £800 per year will be available in respect of all children aged 4-17 who are in care longer than six months.

These credits can be used to purchase facilities and materials to aid and improve education such as:

  • early reading equipment
  • arts and crafts materials
  • educational play equipment for pre-school children
  • additional tuition
  • extra-curricular activities such as music or dance lessons which can aid self esteem and resilience
  • computers and software to support learning at home.

A team of development workers will be established to advise and support foster carers in finding their way around the education system and to make best use of the educational credits available as part of the funding.
