The Fostering Network Scotland's young people's project, which is supported by BBC Children in Need, was set up in 2001 to improve standards in foster care and outcomes for all young people involved. This work is necessary because:

  • It is estimated that up to 40,000 children in the UK under 18 are in foster care.
  • Twenty per cent of care leavers present as homeless.
  • Poor educational and employment outcomes are common among care leavers.
  • There is a lack of consultation with young people involved in foster care.

We consult with young people across the country and encourage the active participation of young people in all aspects of our work.
