For three years from May 2005, the Support Care project is
working very closely with five pilot organisations. It also offers
advice and guidance to all 22 authorities in Wales.
- On 5 July 2005, Support Break Swansea (operated by Swansea
Council) signed up to become our first pilot organisation.
- They were joined by Newport Council on 8 August 2005. Sadly
Newport council had to withdraw in May 2006 due to funding/staffing
pressures.
- A partnership between Barnardo's and Gwynedd Council became
pilot authority number three a few days later on 12 August
2005.
- In September 2005, Powys council decided to become a pilot and
now mentions support care to every prospective foster carers who
contacts them.
- Pembrokshire council committed to becoming a pilot in October
2005.
- Rhonnda Cynnon Taff signed an agreement with the Fostering
Network Wales in June 2006 to become a pilot. Read a press release about the pilot
scheme in Rhonnda Cynnon Taff.
The Fostering Network Wales' support care project is also keen
to assist fostering and adoption services to set up Support Care
schemes specifically for adoptive parents to help prevent adoption
breakdown. Commonly quoted figures indicate that 25-30 per cent of
adoptions breakdown.
