The Fostering Network Wales works with the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) and other organisations to help fostered children in Wales have a positive experience of care.

Working groups

The Fostering Network Wales sits on working groups dealing with subjects that are crucial to the future of foster care in Wales. Areas we have been involved in include implementation of the Adoption and Children Act 2002, improving the educational outcomes of children looked after, and services to unaccompanied asylum seeking children.

Consultations

We draw on our membership to make sure we represent the voice of foster care when responding to consultations on issues such as minimum allowances in foster care, special guardianship and other relevant legislation.

The following reports have come out of previous work with the Assembly:

  • Fit to foster? - profiling foster care and foster carers in Wales (2003)
  • Open to all? - national service framework consultation with parents and carers of children in special circumstances (summary report, December 2003)
  • Mental health - a family concern - national service framework consultation with parents and carers of children and young people with mental health and psychological well-being needs (summary report, December 2003)
  • Special guardianship - a consultation carried out by The Fostering Network in 2004
