Whether you are a carer, a young person in foster care, the son
or daughter of a foster carer, a supervising social worker, a child
and family social worker or a manager, you can play an important
role in changing foster care in Wales. Here's how you can get
involved:
- Come along to our membership meetings, they will provide a
great opportunity for you to meet, chat and discuss specific
issues. Details of when and where these meetings will take place
are posted here well ahead of time.
- Attend our workshops and develop your knowledge on key issues
and challenging subjects such as understanding children's
behaviour, pensions, tax, and safer care. Best of all - they are
free.
- Read our practice notes based on these workshops.
- Encourage your foster care association Chair to join the Foster
Care Association Forum.
- Keep up to date with information, news and best practice ideas
by reading our quarterly newsletter - Fostering News Wales.
- Tell us what you think are the key issues in foster care in
Wales today and help set the agenda for the project. Email
maria.boffey@fostering.net.
- Take part in our media training for foster carers, ensuring
that the work you do is well represented in the media and that your
messages are heard on all levels.
- We will be on hand to help and support foster carers with
specific queries relating to fostering.
- We will be organising events for Foster Care Fortnight.
How will I know when all this is going on?
- We will keep you up to date by printing details and events in
the membership newsletter, by sending you direct mailings and by
posting regular updates on our website.
- We will also be making contact with foster care associations
and support groups across Wales. If you would like us to visit your
group, then contact us at the address listed below.
If you would like to join in any of our activities or would just
like to know more, please contact Maria Boffey on 029 2044 0940 or
by email at maria.boffey@fostering.net.
