Disabilities
It is not currently known how many children in foster care have a disability. However we know anecdotally that an increasing number of foster carers are caring for children with a disability. This can place additional pressures on foster carers, leading them to need additional support, information and training to ensure that they can provide the best possible care to the children they foster.
The Fostering Network published a report on the needs of foster carers who care for children with disabilities in 2009 which discussed the need for additional support for foster carers who foster children with disabilities and the need for a greater understanding of the needs of children with disabilities in foster care.
