The Fostering Network has produced a policy paper: Moving on from foster care which advocates that all young people must have the option of staying with their foster carers until the age of 21.
Both the Care Matters green paper in England and the National Fostering and Kinship Care Strategy in Scotland have recently acknowledged the benefits of young people continuing a strong and healthy relationship with their foster carers well into adulthood.
In order to achieve this we need to make sure the right supports are there, both for the foster carers and the young people involved.
