  • Following figures released today by Cafcass showing that care applications have exceeded 10,000 over the last 12 months for the first time, the Fostering Network is warning this will put foster care under even more pressure and is calling for urgent Government investment.

  • Margaret Kelly will be spearheading the Fostering Network’s work in Northern Ireland after joining the charity as its new country director following 12 years at Barnardo’s, where she was most recently assistant director.

  • The Fostering Network is today warning the Scottish Government that if it fails to give fostered children proper financial support then these children will not have their essential needs met.

    “The Fostering Network welcomes moves by the Government to streamline the adoption process for those children who can benefit from adoption.

    The call comes following today’s publication of The Children's Care Monitor 2011 by Dr Roger Morgan, the children’s rights director for England.

  • New figures from Cafcass, showing a record number of children were taken into care in England in January, confirm the need for more foster families across the country, the Fostering Network is warning today.

  • This year Foster Care Fortnight, the UK’s biggest fostering campaign co-ordinated by the Fostering Network, will run from Monday 14 to Sunday 27 May.

  • In response to the publication of the Policy Exchange’s Fostering Aspirations report, looking at reforming the foster care system in England and Wales, chief executive of the Fostering Network Robert Tapsfield said: “We welcome the publication of this report which helpfully shines a light on some of the real challenges facing foster care.

  • Commenting on the press release issued by Barnardo's looking at the needs of older children in care, Robert Tapsfield, chief executive of the Fostering Network, said:

    “We welcome the fact that Barnardo’s is drawing further attention to the need for more foster carers. Due to the continued rise in children coming into care who require foster homes, an ageing foster care population and around 14 per cent of the workforce leaving every year, more foster carers are urgently needed.
