The Fostering Network Scotland appoints a new director

Image of Sara LurieSara Lurie has been appointed as the new director of leading charity the Fostering Network Scotland.

Lurie, who takes up the post in Glasgow on 18 August, brings a wealth of experience in fostering and social work from the voluntary, independent and statutory sectors, including six years at Norwood, where she became head of fostering and adoption services, and most recently two years as service manager of independent fostering provider Fostering Solutions Scotland. She will direct the Fostering Network’s work throughout Scotland.

Lurie began her career practicing social work in Massachusetts, USA. In 1988 she completed a post-qualifying certificate in social work education at Jordanhill College in Glasgow, and is registered with the Scottish Social Services Council. She also holds a diploma in management.

Lurie said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Fostering Network at such an exciting time for fostering within Scotland. I particularly look forward to directing the organisation’s continuing contribution to the new fostering strategy, to help ensure that the Government gets it right for children in care right across the country.”

Robert Tapsfield, chief executive of the Fostering Network said: ”We’re delighted to welcome Sara on board. Her skills and experience make her the ideal person to be directing the organisation in Scotland. She has a great deal to contribute to the future of the Fostering Network and the future of foster care in Scotland.”

  1. Over 4,000 fostered children live with 3,200 foster families on any one day in Scotland. The Fostering Network estimates there is a shortage of at least 1,700 foster families.
