Education is the fourth book in the successful Pathways Through Fostering series, and is aimed at foster carers, adoptive parents, residential workers and designated teachers and other educational professionals with responsibility for looked-after children.

Education will help foster carers and others to understand the education system and how to get the most out of school for fostered children and young people.

Lucy Peake, director of external affairs at the Fostering Network, said:

“The educational achievements of young people in care often fall below those of their peers. The belief behind this book is that fostered children can succeed at school, in education and in life, and that foster carers are key to helping these children reach their potential.

“But in order to do this, foster carers need to be up to date with today’s education system, and with how they can best help the children in their care to make the most out of their years at school. Education outlines the role that a foster carer can play, and takes them right through the education process, from the basics of literacy and numeracy to the opportunities provided by further education.”

Education (ISBN 1 897869 53 3) is available from Central Books (0845 458 9910 or email tfn@centralbooks.com) priced £12 for members of the Fostering Network (£24 for non members).
