Scottish Government keen to add support to campaign

The Scottish Government is keen to add support to the Together for Change campaign, after the Fostering Network and three other children’s charities wrote to children’s minister Adam Ingram.

In a reply to the charities’ letter, the minister said: "I recognise the very important role played by foster carers in providing secure and stable homes for children. The Scottish Government believes that all carers of looked-after children should be provided with equitable and appropriate support in carrying out this valuable service and that systems should be in place to ensure that carers can provide the best possible opportunities and chances to all looked-after children.

"I would welcome further information on how the Together for Change programme can link with the work of the Getting it Right for Every Child in Kinship and Foster Care Reference Group and how the Scottish Government may add support to the campaign."

Together for Change is the Fostering Network's campaign to ensure that foster care works for every fostered child and every foster family. In order for this to happen, foster carers need to be empowered to deliver the best possible care and enabled to focus on the job they do without worrying about lack of support or financial difficulties.
