Foster carers receive birthday honours

Foster carers have been recognised for their efforts to help support, encourage and develop children and young people in care throughout the UK in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

In all, eight foster carers who are members of the Fostering Network were awarded MBEs in recognition of their services to children and young people. They are:

Mrs Vanessa Orr, fosters for Edinburgh City Council

Mrs Doreen Batcherlor, fosters for London Borough of Islington

Mr Jimmy Batcherlor, fosters for London Borough of Islington

Mrs Christine Ann Pugh, fosters for Halton Foster Care Association

Mr Anthony Coumbe, fosters for London Borough of Westminster

Mrs Maureen Coumbe, fosters for London Borough of Westminster

Mrs Audrey Wearing, fosters for Blackburn With Darwin Borough Council

Mr Fred Wearing, fosters for Blackburn With Darwin Borough Council

Robert Tapsfield, chief executive of the Fostering Network, said, “I would like to congratulate each one of these dedicated individuals for what they do each and every day to ensure that the children in their care have the best possible chance in the future.

“It’s great to see foster carers who work so hard to make the lives of fostered children better being recognised in this way.”

Five other foster carers were also awarded MBEs for services to young people and their families.
