Male foster carers in south Wales are being invited to share their stories and experiences to help develop understanding about their important and often forgotten role.

Young people in care in Wales are being invited to make their voices heard at the Fostering Network's Learning with Care roadshow this spring.

A group of children in Wales whose parents are foster carers were recently invited to tell politicians from all parties about their experiences of growing up in a family that fosters.

A new project to help improve the educational experience of fostered children and young people has been launched by the Fostering Network Wales.

"Some children in care do very well at school and go on to excel in their chosen careers, many others do not achieve their potential and about half leave care without any recognised qualifications from school." (WAO press release, 2 September 2009)

The Wales Audit Office is carrying out a study to see if the support for the education of looked after children is getting better.

Children fostered by half of Wales’s local authorities are being undervalued, according to a new survey published tomorrow (Thursday 16 April 2009) by the Fostering Network.

The case in the Vale of Glamorgan where an 18-year-old boy, placed under an adult placement scheme, has been found guilty of sexually abusing the children of the family he was living with is a tragedy and our thoughts go out to the family involved. However, as the 18-year-old was not in foster care we are unable to comment on this case.
