What we've achieved

The Government produced National Minimum Allowances in 2006 which go some way to addressing the inadequate allowance levels in England and Wales.

Immediate ongoing goals

The National Minimum Allowances do not go far enough. We need to continue campaigning to achieve a national standard that meets or exceeds the recommended allowance levels set by the Fostering Network. We also need to push for similar national levels in Scotland and Northern Ireland, to close down the current "postcode lottery" on allowances.

The Fostering Network Wales responded to a Welsh Assembly Government consultation early in 2007 which set out proposals for a national minimum allowance for foster carers. View this and other recent consultations in Wales.
