The Fostering Network Northern Ireland is based in Belfast. We provide training courses for foster carers and fostering services, peer mentoring and advice for sons and daughters of foster carers, and information and counselling services for anyone involved in fostering.

We are currently co-implementing the pioneering Fostering Achievement scheme, and we also run forums for children and young people, and produce a newsletter for foster care in Northern Ireland.

Consultation on draft regional standards for leaving care services in Northern Ireland

The Fostering Network is holding two consultation events for foster carers on the above draft standards from the Department of Health, Social Services, and Public Safety. The standards aim to ensure that young people leaving care are afforded optimal life chances as they make the transition to independent living.

The Fostering Network was part of a consultation group on the draft standards which included representation from a wide range of statutory and voluntary agencies and young people themselves, and we are keen to include the views of as many foster carers as possible in our response to the consultation.

So please come along to one of the following events and have your say:

  • 23 June 2009, 10am – 12.30pm, Clooney Hall, Londonderry
  • 24 June 2009, 10am – 12.30pm, Express Holiday Inn, Antrim

Contact Kellie Long on 028 9070 5056 or kellie.long@fostering.net if you would like to attend.

If you are unable to attend the events but would like to comment on the standards please send any comments to Phyllis Elwood at phyllis.elwood@fostering.net by 30 June 2009.
