Fundraising trek to Machu Picchu, October 2008

The Fostering Network’s first ever overseas fundraising trek has truly reached the heights of success.

Group at Machu Picchu

An intrepid team of 17 foster carers, staff members from fostering services and the Fostering Network, all completed the trek across the Inca Trail, climbing to a summit of 4,500 metres and reaching their destination: Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, on 9 October.

This was the culmination of months of preparation in training and raising vital funds for the Fostering Network. The team have raised an incredible £52,000 so far, which will make an enormous difference to what we can achieve this year.

"What a fabulous experience and personal journey which I would recommend to anyone interested in challenging themselves meeting new people and making new friends, getting in touch with nature, learning about the Inca history, customs, culture, food, and people, travelling to the other side of the world and raising money to help support the Fostering Network. I will be reflecting on all the wondrous sights and sounds for some time to come.

"Thank you for the privilege of participating in what was an amazing experience and one that I shall never forget."

Sue, trekker and foster carer

This trek has been an enormous benefit to the fostering service. As well as raising vital funds for projects to support foster families, it has really embodied everything that makes foster care work, bringing together a hard working team from across the spectrum of foster care and raising aspirations for us all.

There still time to support the team. Simply click one of the links below to make a donation.
