Jointly published by the Fostering Network and the British Association of Adoption and Fostering (BAAF), The Cost of Foster Care assesses the spending required in order to give children in public care the same opportunities to have a successful future as other children in our society. It draws on the experiences of an expert working group from local authorities, health boards and trusts, and independent fostering agencies across the UK.

The report calls on the governments of the UK to invest an extra £748 million in foster care services. Broad support for its findings comes from the Association of Directors of Social Services in England, Northern Ireland and Wales, the Association of Directors of Social Work in Scotland, the Local Government Association, the convention of Scottish Local Authorities and the Commission of Social Care Inspection.
