We have produced a list of key resources on this topic.
Foster carers can play a key role in contributing to positive outcomes for looked after children and young people by nurturing a culture of reading in the household. The Fostering Network's Telling My Story project, funded by the Roald Dahl Foundation, is helping to develop storytelling skills and encourage reading.
World Book Day is being held on 6 March 2008. The Fostering Network will be holding various related events. See Events in Northern Ireland.
We are also working with the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) to support the implementation of their Training, Support and Development Standards for Foster Care. Two of the standards deal with building on the basic skills of foster carers to improve the development of looked after children and young people. You can sign up to receive a free bi-monthly e-newsletter highlighting recent news and developments around the standards, as well as signposting helpful resources to support attainment of each of the seven standards at www.fostering.net/england.
