Specialist Advisory Service

The Fostering Network Northern Ireland offers an independent and confidential information and advice service. This service is funded by the Community Fund and is complementary to the support provided by Health and Social Services Trusts. It offers information on a range of topics:

  • financial matters
  • education
  • permanence
  • police issues
  • allegations of abuse.

Counselling and support for issues such as:

  • bereavement
  • dealing with loss
  • coping with allegations and their aftermath
  • relationship difficulties or other placement issues.

Mediation and family group conferencing:

  • Providing an independent and neutral third person to help negotiate any difficulties that may arise between Social Services staff and foster carers, with the objective of resolving issues informally where possible.
