Choosing to foster is a big decision that will change your life. Do not be afraid to ask your local fostering service for any further information you need to help you decide whether fostering right for you. Try to speak to foster carers in your area - this can be a very useful way to find out what fostering is really like. Visit the Foster Care Resource Centre for further information on fostering.

If you decide you would like to become a foster carer, contact a fostering service to apply. The assessment process will explore your skills and experience, as well as the type of fostering which would be best for you and your family. The assessment process is explained in more detail in the Gateway to Fostering leaflet Could you foster?
