About this course

Aim

  • To introduce prospective Support Carers to the key issues related to providing Support Care for children and young people

Objectives

  • Clarify the Support Care role and process of approval
  • Think about the kind of children and young people who will need Support Care and how to meet their needs
  • Look at ways of working with families (parents and carers) using the Support Care service
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of the various professionals involved in Support Care
  • Explore ways to make the home a protective environment for the child receiving Support Care and the carer's own family
  • Think about the various contexts for behaviour such as child development, relationships within the family, poverty and deprivation
  • Look at ways to manage issues of placement "boundaries" and "endings"

Friday 19 September 1800-2000 including light snacks
