Free information event for foster carers

4 June 2008

UK Border Agency logo Representatives from the UK Border Agency have arranged with the Fostering Network to come and talk to foster carers about the Children and Young Person’s Asylum Process.

London and the south-east continue to be the main destination of unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) who become the responsibility of Children’s Services and the foster carers whose homes they are placed in. There are ongoing developments in the government's UASC reform programme that have implications for UASC and their foster carers.

This is a FREE event providing the opportunity for foster carers to understand the statutory framework within which asylum seeking young people are placed.

Topics to be covered are:

  • the British Asylum system
  • the Children and Young Person’s Asylum Process
  • possible outcomes of an asylum application
  • key people involved in the asylum process
  • Assisted Voluntary Returns (AVR) age disputes

Date: Wednesday 4 June 2008 from 10.30am-12.30pm
