This course is for:

  • supervising social workers and their managers
  • family placement workers
  • staff who may be involved in investigating allegations

About this course

The aim of this course is to enable participants to develop their understanding of abuse allegations made against foster carers and of the procedures used to manage such allegations. It is based on the guidance Managing allegations and serious concerns about foster carers practice and standards of care written by the Fostering Network for the DFES. The differing responsibilities of fostering services and child protection social workers are discussed, as well as the responsibilities of other agencies. Participants will consider information about the fostering service’s procedure for dealing with allegations and serious concerns.

This course will enable participants to:

  • provide participants with a balanced and realistic understanding of allegations in foster care
  • enable participants to consider how everyone involved in fostering can play a part in minimising the incidence of allegations of abuse
  • examine implications for policy and procedures for the managing of allegations in relation to the DFES guidance
  • explore the availability of quality support for carers and their families during an allegation
