About this course

The aim of this course is to enable participants to have a good understanding of the Framework for Change, and Every Child Matters: the five outcomes for children and young people and how they affect foster care. There are significant changes currently facing the children’s social care workforce and Every Child Matters: the agenda for change is one of them. This course outlines the relevance of these developments for carers, parents and children. It explores the research and background that led to the changes, and highlights the significance of the Children Act 2004 and the practical implications of this new legislation. The course also clarifies the importance of interagency working, particularly in joint assessments, and identifies practical steps that can be taken in meeting children’s needs

By the end of this course participants will have

  • an understanding of the research and background of Every Child Matters
  • good understanding of the five outcomes for children and what they mean for foster carers
  • explored the practical implications of this guidance and related legislation
  • an understanding of the importance of inter-agency working
  • clarity around the roles and responsibilities of supervising social workers
  • identified practical steps to take to meet children's needs.
