Men in foster care

26 April 2008, London (1 day course)

£125 + VAT

This course is for:

  • male foster carers
  • male supervising social workers
  • male residential social workers

About this course

It is for men and is facilitated by male trainers. The role of men in foster care and residential childcare work has been the subject of increased debate. There is concern about how best to work with children who have been sexually abused, worries about abuse by carers, and unsubstantiated allegations of abuse.

This course explores the idea of the ‘positive male role model’ to identify ways in which men can work effectively with fostered children and young people.

This course will:

  • examine how gender influences child care work
  • consider the role of men in work with children who have been sexually abused
  • help identify why sexism must be challenged and how to do this effectively
  • challenge the myths and stereotypes surrounding black men and gay men and promote anti-discriminatory practice.
