12-16 May 2008, London (5 day course)

£813 + VAT

This course is for:

  • those who have not delivered training before
  • experienced trainers wanting to renew their skills

About this course

This five day course will prepare participants to deliver The Skills to Foster to pre-approval foster carers. For many social workers, training foster carers and foster care applicants is a significant part of their job. Many experienced carers are also involved in delivering training. It is considered good practice by most fostering services for foster carers and social workers to combine their skills and experience and conduct training sessions together.

Course materials

Included in the cost of the course, each participant will receive, and work with, their own copy of the Fostering Network’s the Skills to Foster leaders guide and workbook, and a copy of Foster Families magazine. The Skills to Foster is used throughout the country and is seen as the leading pre-approval training course for prospective foster carers. It is an essential resource for anyone involved in preparing new applicants for the challenges of fostering.

This course will enable participants to:

  • practise the skills needed to lead training for carers
  • experience working in partnership with others by planning, preparing and delivering a presentation
  • observe and evaluate sessions presented by other course participants
  • evaluate their own preparation, presentation and co-working
  • be able to acknowledge the skills they already possess and those that they may need to develop further.
