Role of the supervising social worker

25-26 February 2009, Premier Travel Inn, Glasgow

£180.00 + VAT (including lunch)

This course is for:

social workers.

About this course

The relationship between supervising social workers or "family placement supervisors" and foster carers has a key part to play in ensuring children and young people receive high quality care. However, the role of the supervising social workers is far from straightforward.

Social workers need to ensure the fostered child's interests come first and avoid collusive relationships with carers, yet gain respect in order to help carers develop their skills.

This course will help participants to:

  • explore the implications of their management role within an anti-discriminatory framework
  • clarify their responsibilities for allocating work, monitoring and reviewing performance and developing individual carers and groups of carers
  • explore ways of providing leadership and creating good working relationships with carers
  • consider effective ways of responding to concerns about quality of care
  • examine how participants can make themselves more effective by managing their own time efficiently and developing skills.
