Dealing with an Allegation

28 January 2009, YMCA Newport, (One day course)

£82 + VAT for members. Fee includes lunch.

This course is for:

  • anyone directly involved in the care of looked after children.

About this course

Foster carers, like other childcare workers, can find themselves facing allegations about the quality of their care. Becoming the subject of an allegation is always stressful for carers, whose work and home life are so closely linked.

It is always important that such allegations are taken seriously and investigated properly as experience has shown that, on rare occasions, children are ill-treated by the very people who are supposed to care for them. The challenge for everyone involved is to ensure that children are safeguarded and their welfare is promoted, while at the same time treating foster families fairly.

This course will enable participants to:

  • provide participants with a greater understanding of allegations in foster care
  • assist participants to consider how everyone involved in fostering can play a part in minimising the incidence of allegations of abuse
  • introduce participants to the DFES and Fostering Network’s booklet Dealing with and Allegation
  • advise participants of the Guidance to Fostering Services on Managing Allegations and Serious Concerns

This course contributes to the underpinning knowledge requirements for:

  • NVQ Health and Social Care Level 3, Children and Young People units: HSC32, HSC33, HSC317, HSC387, HSC392, HSC395
  • Post Qualifying Award in Child Care units: A, B and E
