Foster Carers and Contact: Supporting children’s relationships
with family and friends
3 December 2008, YMCA, Newport
This course is for
- fostering agencies
- foster carers.
About this course
The Fostering Network is launching the Pathways Through Fostering series
of publications and training courses this year. The topics have
been selected to reflect what agencies and foster carers have told
us they believe should be core post-approval training for all
carers and we are leading on the development of a post-approval
training curriculum.
As part of this series, Foster Carers and Contact will explore
the key, and sometimes complex, issues involved in maintaining
contact between fostered children and their birth families. The
style will be informal and interactive.
This course will enable participants to:
- examine the aims of contact for children looked after and
recall the underpinning legal duties and responsibilities of
children’s services
- reflect on some of the research findings in relation to
contact
- explore how foster carers can develop their skills in relation
to supporting contact plans for children and families
- discuss experiences, problem solve and support others in a safe
place
- address contact within an anti-discriminatory framework.
This course contributes to the underpinning knowledge for:
- NVQ Level 3 units 33; 34; 311
- PQ units A; B & C.
