This course is for:
- foster carers
- supervising social workers
- children’s social workers
- residential child care workers.
About this course
It is recognised good practice that children should be cared for
within their family network wherever possible. This course
addresses the range of very different, and sometimes complex,
issues involved in the placement and support of children and young
people with family and friends (or "kinship care").
This course will enable participants to:
- clarify what childcare law says about family and friends
- gain an overview of current issues and research
- identify ways that childcare social workers and supervising
social workers can work together in the interests of the child
- explore preparation and ongoing training so that kinship carers
can evidence their skills.
This course contributes to underpinning knowledge for:
- NVQ Health and Social Care Level 3, Children and Young People -
core units HSC33, HSC34 and HSC319
- Post Qualifying Award in Child Care - Units B, C and E.
