This course is for:

foster carers looking to identify ways to keep everyone in the foster home safe when using information technology.

About this course

This one-day course has been designed to promote positive and safe internet use, ie awareness of new internet and mobile applications and technologies, internet proficiency, internet literacy and safety issues. The training will raise awareness of the internet and the content, technologies and services that it offers. The course will also cover safety awareness with mobile and wireless technologies, and knowledge and strategies to manage these issues.

This course will enable participants:

  • to identify carers' responsibilities in relation to children and young people using IT
  • to gain a wider understanding of the IT environment, including positive and negative uses
  • to inform participants about the technology available and how to use this
  • to provide guidelines which will inform policy development in relation to supervising carers and organisational practice
  • to identify where the potential "leaks" and "pitfalls" are in using IT.

Qualification units

This course contributes to the underpinning knowledge for NVQ Health and Social Care Level 3 and National Occupational Standards for Child Care at Post Qualifying level. The units are as follows:

  • NVQ units: 32, 33, 34, 370
  • PQ units: A, B, D, E.
