Fostering Achievement
celebrated World Book Day at the Linenhall Library in Belfast City
Centre on Thursday 6 March.
The oldest library in Belfast was packed with foster families, social service professionals and Brookland’s Primary school P.6 class in attendance for an event to celebrate World Book Day.
The launch was opened by Fra Gunn, a well know Belfast performer who entertained the gathering with the reenactment of Julia Donaldson’s ‘The Gruffalo’.
Hugh McAllister spoke about Fostering Achievement’s dream of equality and the right for everyone to receive good education. He officially launched the Fostering Achievement education pack, DVD and CD, as well as introducing the study buddy characters, Johnny, Susie, Ben and Ling. The study buddy characters have been created by foster children who got to provide the character with a profile they felt comfortable with. These characters are designed to encourage children to learn through fun and creative activities.
At the event, children got to trial the new software, play with the education pack and watch a cartoon of the study buddies. The day was a great success, with all adults and children participating in storytelling and songs led by Fra Gunn.
